The movement of forming an Artiste Association started in the year 1939 and the “Film Artistes’ Association of India” was formed in the same year. The veteran artiste late Shri Sohrab Modi was it's first President.
The main object of the Film Artistes’ Association of India was to safeguard the interest of the artistes, to have meetings, lectures for better understanding and personal contacts amongst the artistes.
At that time also the Association used to give financial assistance to the needy and deserving members and their spouses after their demise.
The members of the Association used to collect money for the corpus of the Association by participating in many relief fund collection functions, variety shows etc.
Later on near about 1954, the name of the said “Film Artistes’ Association of India” was changed to “Film Artistes’ Guild”.
