The Bombay High Court on Tuesday cleared the release of the upcoming film Sholay 3D after it rejected the petition filed by director Ramesh Sippy challenging a single bench ruling, allowing the release of Sholay in 3D version.
The bench comprising of Justice S J Vazifdar and Justice GS Patel upheld the April 1 order of the single-judge bench, refusing to restrain Pen India Pvt Ltd and its owner Jayantilal Gada from releasing the 3D version of the movie. Sippy's petition was filed when Pen India acquired the rights of the film from Media and Entertainment who were initially given the rights by Sippy Films via the validity of two agreements - the Deed of Gift of September 14, 2000 and an agreement of July 20, 2011. Apart from this Sippy had also filed a plea for interim relief seeking a temporary injunction against Sholay, Media and Entertainment, Generation Three Entertainment, Pen Media and Jayantilal Gada from dealing in any manner whatsoever with Sholay.
Sholay 3D is slated for release in early January next year.
Welcome Back was touted to be the comeback film of the evergreen on screen couple Amitabh and Rekha. However, Anees Bazmee recently revealed that both the actors have been replaced by Dimple Kapadia and the thespian Naseeruddin Shah.
Revealing about Dimple's role, the director stated that this will be her first attempt at comedy and she will be playing the role of a rich and glamorous lady where she will be sharing the screen space with Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor in the first half and with Naseer in the second. Naseer has supposedly replaced the late Feroz Khan from the prequel who played the don RDX in the film.
Welcome Back will star John Abraham and Shruti Haasan in the lead and the second schedule of the film is slated to go on floors in Dubai this month.
A successful actor, choreographer and now a director, Prabhu Dheva is eagerly awaiting the release of his next masala entertainer R... Rajkumar starring Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha. And now, the director will be teaming up with Balaji Motion Pictures for a film.
Though the director has given his commitment to Ekta Kapoor, a script for the same is yet to be finalized. Also, the casting and other details are still being worked out.
Tanuj Garg from Balaji Motion Pictures confirmed the story and the film is tentatively slated to go on floor in 2014.
Gone are the days when actors only appeared in films. Nowadays, they are equally focussed on their entrepreneurial ventures as much as on their movies. One such name is that of the gorgeous Bong-shell Bipasha Basu, who after having started her career as a model went onto do films and ad commercials, has now got into the entrepreneur arena!
After having successfully launched her fitness CDs, she has now stepped into fashion space by launching her own accessory line through an online store named 'trunklabel.com'. Talking about the same, she said that after venturing into fitness, she wanted to touch upon the fashion aspect by starting with accessories. She will be launching belts, jewelries and bags which can be purchased through a dedicated website online. The reason that she stated for starting an online 'store' is because one can log on according to one's convenience. She added that stores are an age-old concept but online is the way forward, through which one can reach out to many people.
Meanwhile, the buzz is also around the release of her third fitness DVD named 'Unleashed', which will release this month.
A lot of pre-release publicity is being heaped on the new comedy Total Siyappa. But the behind-the-scenes back-story of how the film lost its original title is far more interesting than Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam trying hard to be funny and cute at the media events.
The film was originally titled Aman Ki Asha, as it fitted in nicely with the concept of the Indo-Pak story. However, the title is closely and inextricably associated with a cultural peace plan initiated by a publishing house.
Hence calling the film Aman Ki Asha would not only have seemed an extension of the campaign mooted by the publishing house, it also might have been an infringement of copyright.
When asked, director E. Niwas says the old title just didn't fit in. "We didn't want people to think it was another Veer-Zara kind of love story," says Niwas, leaving you wondering what's wrong with Veer-Zara. Also, if Total Siyappa is a love story about an Indian girl and a Pakistani boy, what is wrong with it being perceived as one?
The film written by Neeraj Pandey was directed by E. Niwas in London in an air of supreme secrecy.
Pandey whose first film A Wednesday was a critical and commercial winner and was remade into three languages, has scripted the remake of a 2004 Spanish film Seres Queridos (Only Human), a comic love story of a Jewish girl and Palestinian boy, which has been transposed by Pandey into an Indo-Pak setting.
Pandey's protagonists in the Hindi remake of Seres Queridos are an Indian girl named Asha and a Pakistani boy named Aman. Predictably the film was called Aman Ki Asha as it also conveys a deep-felt message on amity across the border.
Then the title went for a toss.
Interestingly, Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday was not only remade into Tamil and Telugu, it was also remade into the English language under the title A Common Man with Ben Kingsley and Ben Cross playing the roles originally played in Pandey's film by Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher.
With R... Rajkumar just around the corner, Prabhu Dheva has a lot to be concerned about. Not the least of his worries is his leading lady Sonakshi Sinha's double whammy on two Fridays which has the audiences thoroughly confused.
Not only do Tigmanshu Dhulia's Bullett Raja and Prabhu Dheva's R... Rajkumar release on two consecutive Fridays, they also feature the same leading lady and wear a visually similar look.
Sonakshi has been struggling to keep the promotional pitch for both films different from one another. But the overlapping has done its damage. Her comments on the two films are interchangeable.
Prabhu Dheva is quick to defend his favourite heroine. "Sonakshi has been doing her best. It isn't her fault if two of her films are being released in two weeks. And how can the promotion of the two films overlap when she has Saif by her side in the events for one film and Shahid in the other?"
The coming week, Sonakshi will apparently devote entirely to promoting R... Rajkumar. It's been an underwhelming year what with Lootera under-performing at the box office, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara proving to be a flop. God knows she needs a hit as much as Shahid does.
Apparently, Shahid personally requested Sonakshi to set aside the coming week to promoting R... Rajkumar with him.
Says a source, "With Saif out of the country, Sonakshi is free to promote R... Rajkumar with Shahid. Unlike Saif, Shahid has been singing her praises to anyone who cares to listen."
Salman Khan is having a release almost after one year as Jai Ho would be his next release after Dabangg 2. And hence this time, Salman and director Sohail Khan have come up with a unique idea for the first trailer launch of Jai Ho.
The actor is all set to launch the first look of Jai Ho amongst the general fans and audience. The trailer would be launched at the single screen theatre Chandan, Mumbai on December 5. This will be the first time the trailer would be presented at a public platform and his fans will be able to witness and give him first hand reaction on the same. Also, Salman believes that he will get a chance to interact with his fans about the film.
Jai Ho is a story of an upright common man who is fighting a solitary war against corruption and injustice. The spokesperson confirmed the news saying, "Yes Salman Khan wants people to be there at the launch of the trailer on Dec 5."
